4M NEWS and EVENTS
*4M Network of Excellence - Contract Extension Granted*
We are pleased to inform you all that the EC has agreed an extension to the Network to enable us to complete satisfactorily all our work. This means that expenditure on work agreed in the workprogramme is eligible up to 30th June 2009.
*4M Association*
To continue and sustain the relationships created during the lifetime of the Network we have formed the 4M Association, and the first members have joined. Take a look at the new 4M Association website to find out more.
*4M/ICOMM 2009*
The 4M conference will go ahead and will be even bigger and better. Next year we are to join forces with the ICOMM conference and hold our first joint event. This is a big step forward to making it the premier conference in micro-manufacturing. 4M/ICOMM 2009 will take place at FZK, Karlsruhe, Germany, from September 23rd to 25th 2009. The submission site will open on January 5th 2009, so encourage your students, colleagues and associates to begin preparing their papers now.
*Ceramics Processing in Microtechnology*
This new book, a direct result of the work in the Ceramics Division, will be available in January 2009 from Whittles Publishing. So if you get book tokens for Christmas.........
*MINAM Expert Group on Micro Components*
This Expert Group, lead by 4M, is planning a public event/sandpit on January 21st 2009, centred on microcomponents manufacturing, integration with surface activation/assembly etc. It will take place at TNO, Eindhoven in Holland. If you are interested in participating in this event you can contact Pieter Bolt.
*MULTILAYER 6 month meeting*
The 6 Month meeting of the Multilayer project will be held in Gothenburg on 24th, 25th and 26th March 2009. The meeting will start with an Exploitation Seminar delivered by the European Commission (each partner has to be represented by one researcher or by a person with business or legal background, as the seminar aims at identifying issues other than scientific-technical risks). The following two days will be dedicated to reporting the results obtained during the first 6 months of the project.
OTHER NEWS and EVENTS
*MINAM Meeting*
A second meeting of the MINAM ad-hoc advisory group on industrial nanotechnologies took place on 24th November 2008 in Brussels. A presentation from this meeting is available here.
*Manufacturing in FP7*
Building on the outstanding success of its predecessors of 2007 and 2008, the Manufacturing in FP7 Conference aims to provide in depth information about the manufacturing topics addressed in both Theme 3 (Information and Communication Technologies - ICT) and Theme 4 (Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies - NMP) of the European Union's 7th Framework Programme, FP7.
*PhD Winter School in Nano Tribology*
Organised by our 4M colleagues at DTU, Denmark, this Winter School is focused on nanotribology, the interest in which has increased during the last decade as the size of parts in micro/nano devices is continuously decreasing. See the event page for a full programme and contact details.
*Nanotech "Bizmatch" event*
The Japanese External Trade Organisation(JETRO) will hold "BIZMATCH @ nano tech 2009", a company presentation and business matching event, during "nano tech 2009", the world's largest nanotechnology event.
