4M NEWS and EVENTS
*4M Association*
To continue and sustain the relationships created during the lifetime of the Network we have formed the 4M Association, and it started 1st October 2008. Take a look at the new 4M Association website to find out more.
*4M2008: And the winner is......*
At this year's 4M conference, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Commercial Micro Manufacturing (CMM) magazine, we were able to offer a prize for the best paper. To find out who won click here.
*4M2009*
The 4M conference will go ahead and will be even bigger and better. Next year we are to join forces with the ICOMM conference and hold our first joint event. This is a big step forward to making it the premier conference in micro-manufacturing. ICOMM/4M2009 will take place at FZK, Karlsruhe, Germany, from September 23rd to 25th 2009.
*4M in Japan*
Earlier this year Arnaud de Grave and Hans Norgaard Hansen, both from DTU (Partner 19), spent some time in Japan visiting the laboratory of Prof. Kimura at the University of Tokyo, TODAI, the purpose being to investigate the environmental impact of downscaling technologies. A brief report on their visit is available to partners only here.
*4M Summer School 2008*
Once again, this school was a huge success. A report on what went on is here.
*4M HotSpot at MINAT!*
Pieter Bolt of TNO will lead one of the "HotSpots" at MiNaT on behalf of 4M and the MINAM Expert Group on Microcomponents. Entitled "Integration in Micro Manufacturing" it features in the HotSpot programme on 9th October 2008 and takes place between 1400 and 1630hrs in room C4.2. For full programme, speakers and to download the flyer see the event page.
*MINAM Session & Stand at MINAT*
The MINAM sub-ETP will have a Stand & Session at the MINAT trade fair in Stuttgart. The MINAM session will be on the opening day of the trade fair, Wednesday 7th of October 2008, and the opening session will be chaired by 4M. The stand will be there for the full duration of the fair and will exhibit the work of the MINAM stakeholders such as 4M and IPMMAN. We would like to invite all partners to participate in this event in Stuttgart. The MiNaT webpage is here.
*4M Workshop on "Micro/nano fabrication technologies based on new materials for sensors and micro-optics”at CAS'2008*
On 15th October 2008, as a satellite event of the CAS'2008 Conference, the above workshop will take place. For more information see the event page.
*4M at MM Live 2008 - STAND A7*
The 4M Network & Association will represent MINAM at this new show and exhibition on 21st and 22nd October 2008. COME AND VISIT US AT STAND A7. 4M will also host two workshops (see below) at this event, both in the "Jaguar Room" of the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, UK.
*4M Workshop on "Multi-Material Micro-Manufacture of RF components”at MM Live*
On 21st October 2008 the Sensors & Actuators and Ceramics Divisions will host this workshop on manufacturing microwave components based upon their experiences in the cross-divisional project 4M-MW. For full details and to download a flyer visit the event page.
*4M Workshop on "Concurrent micro/nano processes and materials design”at MM Live*
On 22nd October 2008 the Polymer Division is holding one of its series of sandpits, this one is on "Concurrent micro/nano process and materials design”. For full details and to download a flyer visit the event page.
*4M Workshop on Microdosing*
Hosted annually by the 4M Microfluidics Division, this year the theme is "Micropumps - Research, Industrialisation, Applications - a one day view into dynamic innovations". For full details visit the event page.
*4M Workshop on Powder Injection Moulding (PIM)*
In order to reach the market demand for more complex parts, the PIM industry requires efficient simulation tools in order to set up the process of injection, debinding and sintering. The development of bi-component PIM parts requires more urgently an accurate simulation. Indeed, due to the difference of shrinkage between both materials, macroscopic distortion and also internal stresses can easily appear and lead to unacceptable parts for industrialisation. This workshop is not only addressed at PIM specialists but moreso to industries that would like to implement such simulation in-house for the improvement of their process of fabrication of PIM parts. For full details visit the event page.
OTHER NEWS and EVENTS
*MINAM survey*
Participate in the MINAM survey by October 19th. This questionnaire will support the development of a roadmap for Micro- and NanoManufacturing. The results of this questionnaire and the roadmap will influence, amongst others, European and national funded workprogrammes. Follow this link to the MINAM survey and answer the questions that you feel comfortable with.
