Workshop at DIAMOND Light Source -- Micro-/Nano Engineering Beamline & LIGA technique

Nov 21 2007 - 00:00
Etc/GMT

Diamond House in Didcot, UK, close to Oxford City

STFC Technology (CMF of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) and Diamond Light Source are holding a workshop on "Micro-/Nano Engineering Synchrotron Beamline for high-aspect-ratio structures and LIGA applications". The workshop will take place on 21st November 2007. The venue will be Diamond House in Didcot, UK, which is close to Oxford City.

Please see for further details how to get there: http://www.diamond.ac.uk/AboutDiamond/Location.htm

The intension of the workshop is to inform about technical capabilities of a potential LIGA beamline at the Diamond Light Source. The workshop will also give a good opportunity to form a LIGA / X-ray Lithography interest and user group for the intended beamline in the UK. The workshop should suit industrial partners as well as academia. The benefits of a UK LIGA beamline will be discussed. There will be also the opportunity to present your company or research group in a poster exhibition (please indicate if you wish to present a poster).

Registration from 9:30 am
Start 10:00 am

10:00 Update on Diamond Light Source
10:15 Basic overview of beamline purpose - LIGA & LIGA-type techniques (Andreas Schneider -- RAL-CMF)
10:30 Material Processing: the role of LIGA complementary to other micro/nano fabrication techniques (Graham Arthur -- RAL-CMF)
10:45 Experience at other SR facilities (Volker Saile - Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe FZK)
11:10 Coffee Break / Possibility to see poster exhibition
11:30 Industrial needs: high aspect micro/nano fabrication (Peter Jefferies - TECAN
11:45 Commercialisation of LIGA (Ron Lawes)
12:00 Novel resist polymers for high resolution lithography (Alex Robinson -- Birmingham Univ.)
12:20 LIGA & LIGA-type sensors and actuators (Paul Kirby -- Cranfield Univ.)
12:40 Optical requirements for proposed beamline (Kawal Sawhney - Diamond)
13:00 Lunch break
14:00 Tour of DIAMOND
14:30 Tour of CMF

In the afternoon from approx. 15:00 we continue with small round table discussions to identify your requirements for engineering high-aspect-ratio and high resolution micro-/nano-structures, which could be fabricated on the proposed beamline.

16:00 Conclusion, Wrap up, and Coffee

If you have interest to participate the workshop, please respond to CMFPROJECTOFFICE@rl.ac.uk or A.Schneider@rl.ac.uk by Monday, 19 Nov. latest. Please let us know if you need any assistance (e.g. accommodation etc).

We would be delighted to welcome you or your colleagues at the workshop and for future collaboration.
This workshop is supported by the European NoE "Multi-Material Micro Manufacture -- 4M" (http://www.4m-net.org/).
