The 4M ASSOCIATION

The 4M Network of Excellence, or to give its full name, the Multi-Material Micro Manufacture Network of Excellence, started on 1st October 2004. It is a consortium of 30 academic and research organisations that came together to form the network under the European Commission’s 6th Framework Research Programme. It also has over 80 Industrial Affiliates.

Since its inception the network has built a knowledge community in multi-material micro manufacture that has become a focal point and knowledge resource to industry and the wider community. It has done so by carrying out a joint programme of activities (JPA) for research collaboration and knowledge dissemination in non-silicon microtechnologies. This JPA has included Divisional activities where partners have worked in eight specialist technology and application Divisions, cross-divisional projects that ensured collaboration across these Divisions, a 4M website and an 4M Conference for dissemination of the results to the wider community, an Industrial Advisory Board and interaction with industry.

The funded period of the Network ends in September 2008, so to ensure the continuation of the relationships and community that 4M has established we are going to form a 4M Association, with membership open to all.
